The prohibitionist and direct veto advocate was a Christchurch-based periodical founded by Thomas Taylor and Leonard Isitt of the Sydenham Prohibition League.
The prohibitionist regularly featured a page edited by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. This women’s page was inaugurated by Kate Sheppard, who wrote under the pen-name ‘Penelope.’
This Dunedin edition is open at the W.C.T.U. page of the issue immediately following the granting of women’s suffrage on 19 September 1893.
